Skemik 1.0 is out

The database that ships its own data model.

Like a headless CMS or a spreadsheet database, only with schema.org as its ready-made model: thirty types, every field named and typed before you start. Website, shop and assistant read and write the same data at one address.

Model

You model nothing. The shape of your data is already set.

Course, order, person: almost everything you keep has a known form. Skemik comes with it, and because the words are schema.org's, shop, accounting and assistant all mean the same thing by author.

Ready-made fields, no Date2

Every field has its schema.org name and its type before you add it. There are no custom types, so the next tool still understands your data.

A collection's fields and the choice of fields its type still offers.
Add a field

Nothing to type, nothing to invent.

Everything linked, both ways

The same person is author, customer and attendee. Lists replace custom collections, terms replace dropdowns, and a link can know something: “CTO, 2021–2024”.

A record and everything that points at it, each link with its type and field.

Multilingual out of the box

An article has a record per language, each with its own status; a person is one record with words per language. The twelfth language costs as little as the second.

An article with its languages, each in a state of its own.
Languages on a record

Each language with a status of its own.

Interface

A finished program, not a construction kit.

Since every type is known, the interface is there before the first record exists. You only choose which fields a collection carries and which go public. Three roles, login by code, six languages.

Five views

List, table, cards, grid, timeline: every collection does all five, because the type says what is a date and what is an image. Each view edits in place, many records at once too.

A collection's table, three rows ticked, above it the bar with status, value and trash.
The table

Ticked, and one status for all.

Publish per field

The city goes out, the street stays in. Four states from draft to archived, per language for texts. Scheduled records appear and ended ones disappear on their own.

A collection's fields with the column saying which go public and which stay in.
The fields

What goes out is marked on the field.

What needs a look, in the overview

Links to nowhere, missing required fields, old drafts, a key that expires next month, a backup that failed: Skemik looks for these on its own.

The admin's overview with the Needs a look card and what Skemik found on its own.
The overview

Before anyone notices.

Address

What goes in comes back out: as a table, as text, as an API.

The same collection as jsonld, html, csv and md at one address, filtered and sorted through the address itself. What is published is out there: no connector, no sync, no copy. No frontend, on purpose: your website stays yours.

A record in the admin, beside it its address with the document as the feed serves it.
The address

The same record, twice – and a frontend reads it directly, with no library, like this page.

Keys

A grant, not a master key.

Website, shop and assistant write the same way they read. A machine gets no user account but a grant, and every write is logged under its name. The form creates a message, the till an order, the customer portal reads only its own customer.

A key being issued, with its sentence “may create reservations, nothing else” and its expiry date.
The key

One sentence, one date.

One collection, one action, one date

Create, modify, read or configure, limited to one collection, one field or one record: “The booking service may create reservations, nothing else.” Every key expires, after two years at the latest.

Nothing appears unseen

What a machine writes lands as a draft: no key publishes and none deletes. Eighty drafts from one script you tick and publish in one bar.

The assistant reads the profile

At /feed/en-US/profile every field of every type is listed, named in the language you publish in. An assistant reads that, writes drafts, and a person publishes.

Operations

Runs on ordinary web hosting. And leaves you alone.

PHP and one SQLite file, installed in a minute. Left out is everything that would otherwise need maintaining or fixing.

One folder for everything

The database and the uploads sit side by side. Copying the folder backs it up, moving it is the same, and everything leaves again in all four formats.

Updates and backups on their own

Backed up daily, going back around thirty days, without cron and without a daemon, restored whole from the admin. Every version signed, verified and installed on its own.

Your data, your code
